Four Great Beauties in China History

 Four Great Beauties

The Four Beauties or Four Great Beauties are four ancient Chinese women, renowned for their beauty. The scarcity of historical records concerning them meant that much of what is known of them today has been greatly embellished by legend. They gained their reputation from the influence they exercised over kings and emperors and, consequently, the way their actions impacted Chinese history. Three of the Four Beauties brought kingdoms to their knees and their lives ended in tragedy.

1.西施 沉鱼之貌,Xi Shi (c. seventh to sixth century BC, Spring and Autumn Period), said to be "so beautiful as to make swimming fish sink"

2.王昭君 落雁之貌,Wang Zhaojun (c. first century BC, Western Han Dynasty), said to be "so beautiful as to make flying geese fall"

3. 貂蝉 闭月之貌, Diao Chan (c. third century, Three Kingdoms period), said to have "a face that would make the full moon hide behind the clouds"

4. 杨贵妃 羞花之貌,Yang Guifei (719-756, Tang Dynasty), said to have "a face that would make all flowers feel shameful" 。
